This month we talk to Dinah Siman – Pilates, yoga and meditation teacher. From her extensive studies and 20+ years teaching experience, Dinah is a strong advocate in helping women who are experiencing menopause.
Menopause Pilates is a bespoke approach for perimenopausal and menopausal women. My fun, yet highly effective methodology fills the void that currently exists. There are Pilates classes for different areas of the body – shoulders, back and hips. Classes for different ages – children, adults, and seniors. Pilates classes for different sports – golf, football and dance. So why not create a class for those experiencing menopause?
That’s why I have created a unique menopause Pilates framework, which builds on the basic principles of Pilates, while anchoring the exercises firmly in the areas of movement practice, which we need in the menopausal stage of life. We hone into the vital areas of strength, bone loading, mobility, pelvic floor health, body awareness and breathing, communication and fun!
Movement is vital for our health and wellbeing during the stages of menopause. The joy of moving can be lost during this time in our lives but menopause Pilates enables you to regain strength, confidence and the pleasure of movement in your body with ease.
I am a firm advocate of empowerment for the women I teach. Menopause has been a neglected and taboo subject for a long time so it’s fabulous to see how much the conversation in the media has recently surged. I’ve worked with many menopausal women during my career. Working with them, helping them to manage such conditions such as frozen shoulder, Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, all common to menopause, has given me a wide overview of the reach of hormonal depletion on our musculoskeletal system. Menopause Pilates offers a balanced approach to the support, nurturing and challenge our body can require during this phase of our lives.
My client-centered approach can see me work alongside other experts in their field to optimise the care they receive and ensure their progress. My approach is always practical, supportive and positive! I love teaching and menopause Pilates is very much my passion project in my work life.
I have recently launched a one-day course for Pilates teachers all about menopause – the feedback has been very positive and my vision to help other teachers facilitate their clients in menopause is now in action!
