Hot Flushes? Don’t Sweat!

Hot flushes, a common menopausal symptom, can be particularly unpleasant during the summer months, irrespective of whether it may be mild or severe!

However, minor adjustments in diet and lifestyle like avoiding spicy foods, cutting back on caffeine, maintaining optimum levels of good fats (avocados, oily fish etc.), keeping hydrated, practicing self-calming techniques such as yoga and meditation, as well as including mild exercises as part of a routine can surely be helpful.

While Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is widely recognised and remains the most talked about therapy, according to a recent ‡survey, it is not the silver bullet for alleviating menopause symptoms. The survey carried out on over 2,000 women showed that 49% of women were not planning on using HRT, favouring alternative ways to help manage their symptoms – such as natural supplements or vitamins (44%), nutrition (34%), exercise and fitness solutions (25%) and sleepwear (22%). However, decision making is not easy within the context of food supplements or herbals. While there are plenty of varied options that claim to help manage this sudden feeling of heat throughout the body, it can be quite confusing to understand what credible options really do make a difference.

One evidenced based option is Red Clover Isoflavones, which are a great source of phytoestrogens (plant-based isoflavones) that naturally mimic the action of oestrogen in the body. Compared to soy, red clover also contains twice as many types of isoflavones (Genistein, Daidzein, Biochanin A and Formononetin), and has a higher bioavailability. It is important to understand that not all red clover supplements are the same. Many contain little or concentrated extracts and therefore do not meet the quality or standards shown in published, scientific studies.

Our Promensil Double Strength uses a standardised source of 80mg of Red Clover Isoflavones. It is the only Red Clover-based supplement in the UK, that has been scientifically recognised (*Lipovac M. et al, 2011) to help reduce mild to moderate hot flushes and night sweats. These studies have been subjected to systematic reviews and rigorous analysis and backed by over 20 years of scientific research. Promensil is a credible option that offers a two-pronged approach for instant as well as long-term relief for hot flushes and night sweats, using our Cooling Spray and Red Clover Isoflavone Double Strength tablets.
